Do I need a referral? No, you are welcome to self- refer. You may however be eligible for an $84.80 rebate if referred by your GP under a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Please get in contact for further information.
What happens during an initial session? When you arrive we will ask you to complete a few forms initially, including a brief questionnaire and consent form. We will then meet to discuss your concerns. Initial sessions are 90 minutes, but may be less for reduced fee clients, whereas ongoing sessions are 50 minutes. Initial sessions often involve the psychologist asking questions in order to gain an understanding of the problem. We believe in providing support and advice during this session as well, so you leave with something to focus on. Is my private information kept confidential? Yes. Psychologists are bound by a Code Of Ethics which means your information is kept secure and confidential, except during the following circumstances:
With the client's expressed consent to share information e.g. in sharing reports with schools, your GP;
When information is subpoenaed by court;
Where there is an immediate and specified risk of harm to person or persons which can be averted only by disclosing information;
When otherwise required by law.
How many sessions will I require? Session numbers vary from client to client, however we typically provide short- term treatment with 6- 10 sessions. Once all of the information relating to your difficulties has been gathered during the initial session, we will discuss with you a treatment plan. We usually recommend weekly to fortnightly sessions at first, with a view to increasing time between sessions as therapy progresses. All of this will be discussed with you during your initial session.
Do you work with adults? Yes we do. Our Psychologists are experienced in working with individuals of all ages. Please do not hesitate to get in contact to find out more.
