Psychological Assessments

What is a Psychological Assessment?

Psychological assessments gather information about your child if you hold concerns regarding your child's:
  • Development
  • Social, emotional or behavioural difficulties
  • Learning abilities and/ or;
  • Academic performance relative to their peers.

Our Psychologists use information gathered through clinical interview, questionnaires (parent/ teacher/ child), psychometric assessments and observations in the testing session to inform their recommendations. The psychometric assessments used by Psychologists are standardised, which means they are objective measures which have a large evidence base to support their reliability and validity.

What tests do you use?

Cognitive (IQ) Tests
The Wechsler tests are the most commonly used tests to assess cognitive abilities (IQ).
  • The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fifth Edition (WISC-V) is used to measure cognitive abilities in children aged aged 6 years - 16 years, 11 months.
  • The Wechsler Preschool & Primary Scale of Intelligence, Fourth Edition (WPPSI-IV) is used to measure cognitive abilities in children under 6 years of age.

Emotional/ Behavioural & Neuropsychological Tests
  • The Conners Comprehensive Behavior Rating Scales (CBRS) is used to screen for a broad range of behavioural, emotional, and social problems in children aged 6 to 18 years. This involves a self-report questionnaire (children 8-18 years), and a parent and teacher questionnaire (children 6-18 years). The CBRS is one of the most reliable and accurate measures to identify children with various difficulties, including ADHD.

How much will it cost?

As with our intervention services, psychological assessments are billed at an hourly rate.
You may be asked to complete questionnaires and forms in your own time, to assist with the assessment process and reduce overall cost to you.

Psychometric assessments usually involve:
  • 2x hours of assessment (includes initial clinical interview to gather information regarding your concerns).
  • 2x hours of scoring, interpreting and report writing.
  • 1x hour feedback session

Our current fees are $165 per hour, as such the total cost of an assessment is usually $825.
Please visit your clinician's profile here to learn more about their individual fees.
